Matt Jones birdies #18 twice to win the Shell Houston Open. First he sinks a 46′ putt on 18 to come from 6 back to be 1 behind the leader Matt Kuchar. Playing right behind Jones, Kuchar then puts his approach shot in the water and makes a bogie to send the two to a playoff.  Jones then proceeds to chip in from 42′ for his 2nd birdie. This forces Kuchar to try to sink his third shot from the right hand bunker just to send the match to a second playoff hole but he came up way short. The win for the 33 year old Aussie is his first on the PGA tour and gets him into the Masters this week.

On the LPGA front, Lexi Thompson showed that she can finish strong as she birdied three of the first 5 holes on Sunday and skillfully managed her play the rest of the way to win over Michelle Wie at the Kraft Nabisco – the first LPGA Major of the year. She was upstaged by her caddie on the traditional jump into the pond. She had a half-hearted so called cannon ball while her caddie did a 360 flip.
