At one time or another, nine golfers held or shared the lead on the back 9 on Sunday at the PGA Championship being played at TPC Harding Park. Finally, with two great back to back shots, Collin Morikawa broke out of the pack for the win.
On the par 4 15th hole, Morikawa’s 2nd shot came up short and to the right of the green. He then proceeded to chip in the next shot for a birdie taeing him to 11 under and 1 stroke ahead of the pack. Then, on the tee at the driveable par 4 16th hole (294 yards), he hit a gentle fade which ended up 6 feet below the hole. Calm and collected, he dropped the putt for an eagle to go to -13. He ended up beating Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey by 2 strokes for the win.
On the LPGA, Danielle Kang has won back to back weeks as she took the Marathon LPGA Classic. One could say she back into the win when Lydia Ko (the leader going into the 18th hole) messed up leading to a double bogie. Kang beat Ko and Jodi Ewart Shadoff by 1 stroke.
