What a finish to the first PGA Tour event of the 2019 calendar year. Gary Woodland was cruising along for the last 2 rounds looking like he had the title in the bag.

But, low and behold, along comes Xander Schauffele to snatch the trophy and winner’s check by posting a course record-tying 62 and a 1 stroke win. Woodland had a chance to tie on the 72nd hole but his 3rd shot didn’t release and left him with a 10ft birdie attempt which went off course as it approached the hole.

The Sentry Tournament of Champions became Schauffele’s 4th PGA Tour win.

The event was also the first to be played on Tour under the revised rules of golf. It’s going to be interesting going forward.
