The Safeway Open was the first event of the season. It began the same way it did last year with Brendan Steele repeating as the champion. Steele retained the title with a 2 stroke win over Tony Finau and 3 strokes better than Chesson Bradley and Phil Mickelson.

The European Tour also had a repeat winner at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Terrell Hatton won the event again with a -24 score and beating Ross Fisher by 3 strokes. Fisher did post a -11 61 on Sunday to set a new course record at the Old Course at St. Andrews.

With a week off on the LPGA Tour, Christie Kerr went to France to play in the European Ladies Tour’s Lacoste Ladies Open. After finishing a rain delayed 3rd round, she held the lead by 9 strokes and then coasted to win the event by 4 strokes.

The PGA Tour has announced it’s Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. Neither were other than expected. Xander Schauffele was voted the Rookie title and of course Justin Thomas was named the Player of the Year with his 5 wins during the season including the PGA Championship.
