Rory has now joined Tiger as the only two golfers ever to win back-to-back Majors and World Golf Championship events. This feat has earned Rory the #1 ranking again displacing Adam Scott.

You almost have to feel sorry for Sergio Garcia (note I said “almost”). He has now turned in three 2nd place finishes in his last four events. Watching him yesterday was a bit painful as he just made too many mistakes losing a 3 stroke lead in 4 holes to fall behind by 1. Rory has his game spot on now. The question that needs to be answered next is can he win 3 in a row with this week’s PGA Championship on the line?

Tiger had to withdraw after hitting is tee shot on the 9th hole. He could hardly move because of his back spasms. He hurt it when falling back and hitting the ground in the sand trap after a shot on the 2nd hole. From there, you could see him struggle and his back stiffening.  He has until his morning tee time on Thursday to decide if he can play.  While Tiger went home, his caddie Joe LaCava did head out for Valhalla to scope out the course and do his notetaking in case Tiger is going to play.

There was PGA tour event going on simultaneously with the World Golf Championship. It was the Barracuda Championship (Stableford Scoring). Geoff Ogilvy finally seems to have gotten his game back. It was his first win on the PGA tour since 2010.

One other note regarding the PGA tour is the news about Dustin Johnson and his “self-imposed” time off. Let’s hope that he is able gets his act together and returns without any lingering problems.

The LPGA was off but the Seniors did play. Kenny Perry won the 3M Championship by one stroke over Marco Dawson. He posted a 9 under 63 on Sunday to take the title.
