Yes that could easily describe Martin Kaymer’s performance at the 2014 US Open. Kaymer was truly impressive throughout this tournament, posting a 65 in each of the first two rounds to mark the lowest two-day score in U.S. Open history. While he struggled a bit in Round 3 with five bogeys, he did not let this affect him too much as he still finished the round with a respectable 72.

While all of the golf experts kept on talking about who could make a run in the fourth round, that ‘charge’ never came. Kaymer just kept the pedal to the metal and cruised to a easy wire-to-wire with a final round 69 to win by 8 strokes. Only Ricky Fowler and Eric Compton could manage a below par finish for the tournament.

While not highly ranked in the putting stats on tour, personally, I think Kaymer put on a putting clinic on very difficult greens.  Don’t forget he also went wire-to-wire at the Players Championship last month as well jumping out to a quick lead and never looked back. Now he had a win on Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
