Focus on 1 shot at a time. That was Jason Day’s mental approach at the PGA Championship in Sheboygan WI. He was the best and Whistling Straights was no match for him this week. Day posted a -20 over the 4 days to beat Jordan Spieth by 3 strokes. The -20 is a “Majors” record. No one had hit that number as measured against par.

Jordan Spieth also set a Majors record as well.  For the four Championships, he had an aggregate total of -54. That beat the -53 Tiger Woods set in his magical 2000 season.

With his 2nd place finish, Spieth also jumped up to the #1 spot in the Official Golf World Rankings taking over from Rory McIlroy who held that spot for 53 consecutive weeks.

LPGA Tour: Another “youngster” is showing she had the game as well. 17 year old Brooks Henderson posted a walk away victory with a -21 to win by 8 at the Cambia Portland Classic.

DO YOU KNOW?  Since April 6, 1986, there have been several male golfers to hold the #1 golf rankings for just 1 week. All but one where able to ascend to that ranking at least for another period of more than 1 week during their golf careers. Do you know who that golfer was that held the #1 ranking for only the 1 week?

If you do, email me his name to drew@myrtlebeachgolfmasters.com. The first person to email me with the correct name will receive two sleeves of Pro V golf balls. Good luck !!!
