The Open Championship duel between Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson at Royal Troon on Sunday has to be an instant classic. As the two on the top on the leaderboard for the weekend battled hole by hole, Stenson putted away over the last few holes to post a 3 stroke victory of Mickelson. JB Holmes finished a distant 3rd some 14 strokes behind Stenson. This was the first Major for Stenson (and the first Major for any male golfer from Sweden). He did it with a tremendous 63 (10 birdies and 2 3-putt bogies). Mickelson also had a great round of 65 (bogie free).

Aaron Baddeley, winless on the PGA Tour for 5 years, broke that streak with a 4th playoff hole victory over Si Woo Kim at the Barbasol Championship.

A marathon at the LPGA Marathon Classic had Lydia Ko emerge as the winner over Mirim Lee and Ariya Jutanugarn. Ko finally birdied the 18th hole on the 4 playoff hole try for the win.

The Web.com Tour was in Springfield IL for the Lincoln Land Charity Classic. Martin Flores finally got his first win on a major professional tour after almost a decade of trying. He won by 2 strokes over Wesley Bryan.

Clariss Guce won the Symetra Tour’s Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic for her first victory. Ally McDonald and Sophia Popov finished 1 stroke behind Guce.
