What a great last 2 hours of watching The Players Championship. That was a lot of great golf being played by a bunch of players topped by Ricky Fowler playing the last 6 holes of regulation in 6 under. Sergio Garcia stumbling a bit and going from 2 up to 2 down and then hitting clutch birdies to tie Fowler at -12. Let’s not forget the great effort by Kevin Kisner with the lead tying birdie on 17 and the ever sooooooo close put on 18 to almost win the event.

Then comes the 3 hole playoff between Kisner, Garcia and Fowler. What is a better 3 hole set up than 16, 17 and 18? Each was a bit shaky with the tee shots on 16 and all finishing the hole at par. Then 17 to deal with. All three had birdie opportunities albeit Sergio’s was from long range and just missed. The missed birdie by Sergio was his downfall as the other 2 made their respective birdies and Sergio couldn’t get the birdie on 18 as the other two made pars.  With the  hole aggregate scoring, Sergio was knocked out. Then on to sudden death and back to 17. Kisner hit a great shot but Fowler hit is stiff (a little under 3 feet from the hole). Again, Kisner just barely missed his birdie leaving Fowler to drain the birdie and win the Championship.  Props go out to all three: Fowler for his great finish and win, Garcia for overcoming his lifelong putting woes and to Kisner who for the 2nd time this year played great only to be beaten in OT.

There were so many other good to great performances over the weekend. Let’s not forget Billy Horschel’s 10 birdies on Saturday. If only his putter had been a bit better on Sunday.

European Tour: George Coetzee won for the 2nd time on the Euro Tour winning the AfrAsia Bank Marutius Open on the 2nd playoff hole over Thorbjorn Olesen.

Symetra Tour: This weeks winner was Alejandra Lianeza (Mex) with a -10 at the Links at Stoney Creek in Greenwood SC.
