About 20% of the field at the WGC Championships – Workday Championship took to wearing Red on Sunday in honor and tribute to Tiger Woods who was seriously injured in a single car accident earlier in the week. Dressed in Woods” traditional Sunday outfit of a dark red shirt and black pants were Finau, McIlroy, Fleetwood, Reed, Ortiz, Munoz, Champ and Scheffler. Several other wore lighter red colored shirts.
The field at the Workday Championship was the strongest so far this year. Collin Morikawa emerged at the winner with a -18 for the event and a 3 stroke victory over Brooks Koepka, Viktor Hovland and Billy Horschel. This was Morikawa’s first WGC victory to go along with his PGA Championship.
The LPGA was also in Florida at the Gainsbridge LPGA where Nelli Korda shot 4 rounds under par to post 16 under and a 3 stroke win over Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko.
Farther south was a parallel PGA event – Puerto Rico Open. Brandan Grace eagled the 17th and birdied the 18th on Sunday to take the title by a stroke over Jhonathan Vegas for his 2nd PGA Tour win.
The Champions Tour was also in play at the Cologuard Classic. Kevin Southerland won the event by 2 strokes over a fading Mike Weir.
