Having won the Safeway Open this past weekend, Cameron Champ started out not looking to play as he learned that his grandfather was diagnosed with Stage IV stomach cancer and had been placed in Hospice Care. He decided to play to honor is grandfather and did so with the win.

It was his grandfather who gave Champ his first set of plastic clubs at the age of 2 1/2.

During Sunday’s round, Champ had built up a 5 stoke lead by the 11th hole but then started to falter to the extent that his lead was gone after the 17th hole. Then he did the “Champ” thing by hitting his tee shot on the par 5 18th hole 369 yard . That left him with just an 8 iron into the green. He finished off the hole to win by a stroke over Adam Hadwin.
