August’s World Amateur Handicap Championship was held at the Barefoot Dye Golf Course this year with over 3300 contestants. The tournament is very popular to golfers worldwide, including golfers from China, Australia, Austria, Bermuda, Brazil, Germany, Guatemala, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Portugal, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Sweden, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, United Kingdom, U.S. Virgin Islands, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Scotland, and the United States.
After several stellar rounds by the tournament’s participants, the title was taken from Dr. Otto Susec, a 45 year old Indianian who beat out his opponent by 4 strokes with a score of 58. Tournament officials deemed this score impossible and disqualified Susec. The champion title was given to Rich Brennan of Maumee, Ohio, a 66 year old who has played in the tournament many times but only advanced to the championship round once.
